Together During COVID-19

Our community is being hit particularly hard by the virus at this time and I wanted to take a moment to say a few words.

We are facing an unprecedented crisis, and also unprecedented federal, provincial and municipal public health measures. Our very social community has never experienced this before, and it is taking a toll on all of us, but I am pleading with you to please stay the course and listen to the experts. Stay at home, try to do groceries only once a week, always keep a 2-meter-distance from others.

While we have never been so physically isolated, we’ve also never been so interconnected as a community. Every one of our actions impacts our neighbours. And the outpouring of support for one another is truly beautiful.

Right here in our neighborhood, new charities and virtual support groups have sprung into action, donations poured in, and volunteers raised their hands as we supported one another. People are taking to their balconies to play music for each other, to pray for each other, and to applaud our local nurses and doctors.

I know it’s not easy.

I’ve felt your tears of despair and anxiety in the face of the virus. I’ve felt your tears of relief as loved ones were returned home safely from around the world. We’re working 24/7 to respond to your questions and concerns and to put in place the support you need.

The new measures that our government has put in place to help you, your family, and your business through COVID-19 may not be perfect, but we are doing everything we can and quickly.

The Canada Emergency Care Benefit will provide individuals who no longer have income with $2000/month. We’ve placed a 6-month, interest-free pause on Canada Student Loan payments. We’ve deferred income tax payments, increased the GST credit, increased the Canada Child Benefit, and the list goes on.

All of this is being done to help you stay home and stay safe. So please. Keep washing your hands. Keep your distance from others. Keep calling your friends. Keep picking up old books. Keep posting funny memes. Keep cooking up a storm. Keep helping your neighbours…

We’ll get through this together.
